Welcome to my blog. I am a practicing primary care physician in the Southeastern US, caring for patients of all ages (Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics). This blog covers a wide variety of issues, including the following: What it is like to be a physician, dogs driving cars, what troubles are in our system, toddlers with flame-throwers, what would it take to fix that system, llamas, death and dying issues, mutants, and accordions. Maybe I need to write about mutant dying accordions with flame-throwers. Hmmm....I feel a post coming. Anyhow, I like variety. Life is always lived with both laughter and tears. Hmm, so far, the doctors I’ve seen that actually use EHR seemed more efficient. I’ve seen upcoding from the non-EHR docs. From what I can tell, the system my pcp uses required him to ask me questions and questions were added on based on my answers. Don’t think that lends itself to cookie-cutter documentation… but that’s my guess.
The univ. hospital my previous doctors were at had the capabilities to utilize EHR but only one dept did among the ones I’ve been seen at. All the other dept’s had computers in the exam rooms as… paperweights.
