Those who have read my blog for some time know I am passionate about music.  I am constantly playing music of a wide variety of styles, but really try and listen to artists who are good both musically and lyrically.

Here are some of the recent artists I have added to my collection.  I recommend Amazon for buying your MP3’s, by the way.  It is cheaper than I-Tunes, and there is no DRM that restricts where you play them.

*Note – to those using readers, the Blog has a player that allows you to listen to a sample of each of these.

Folk:

The Cottars – Irish Folk music with some very melodic songs along with it.

The Greencards – Another folk group (with, I must admit, a little country influence).

Rock/Alternative:

Lifehouse – Have been around for a while.  Really strong lyrics.

Coldplay – I got X&Y, their previous album, but their most current one is absolutely worth getting.

I know musical tastes vary, but hope that some of you find something you like.

I always love finding a fellow audiophile, so here are some of my suggestions...

Rufus Wainwright- Pretty much anything he does is amazing. Elton John called him the best lyricist alive. He also does some pretty excellent covers ("Hallelujah" and "Across the Universe").

Colin Hay- Pretty simple stuff. He's just a guy with a guitar mostly. His voice is absolutely perfect for the style of music that he plays. You may already know him from Men at Work. Try "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin", "Overkill", "Beautiful World" and "My Brilliant Feat."

Oh, and just in my opinion, if someone wants a lyricist, Jackson Browne is tragically underrated. He's one of the greatest lyricists of the last century and one look (and listen) at "Sky Blue and Black" should prove that.

Anyway, excellent blog. I love your writing style. Please, keep it up.
  • Funny the only song I didn't enjoy that much was the Coldplay one...and I generally like cold play. I really enjoyed the Lifehouse and The Greencards. Thank you for introducing me to some new tunes. Always on the looks out for new stuff....
  • I loved all of them. Great taste! The first one I chose to listen to first was Lifehouse, perfect. Drawn right to it. Have a great week, Rob.

'Enjoyed the recommendations and bought a few MP3s of each from amazon. Here are a couple for you: Jenny Reynolds (www.jennyreynolds.com, folk singer in Austin, TX) and Bluehouse (www.bluehouse.net [note .NET not .COM], Australian duo...used to be a trio).

Recently subbed. I love discovering new music, so thanks for recommendations. Here are several for you, if you don't know about them already - Red Wanting Blue (Ohio local band), Carbon Leaf, Black Lab.
