While I know that some of my readers are not American, I would invite all nationalities and creed to enter this contest. Even those who are morally opposed to being thankful.
What I want is to play “fill in the blanks.” I will award the best submissions for the following:
- I am very thankful for/that ___________________________.
- I am absolutely not thankful for/that _________________________.
Now, the “for/that” does not mean that you include both words; you choose between the two. For example:
- I am very thankful for the choice between “for” and “that” or
- I am very thankful that we can still choose between “for” and “that” freely in this country. or
- I am absolutely not thankful for choice. I am so indecisive and neurotic that I can’t decide and so am now having a panic attack….huff…..huff….
You get the picture.

I am very thankful that I am alive and aware more now than ever as one who is playing the back nine at 42 years old, as I seen things more clearly at the noon of life, while at the old age of youth.
I, however, am not thankful that there are not more who fracture social paradigms due to the anechoic effect associated with groupthink. In other words, I am not thankful that there are so few who speak out and so many who remain silent out of fear.

Laura, you got out, that’s what matters. It took me six years to get out, but sometimes we endure what we shouldn’t. All it takes is looking at the bullet holes in my furniture to make me smile and realize that, no matter what, I made it out the other side.
You did too. Go make the rest of your life what you *want* it to be!
I am very thankful for my job as a radiologist that allows me to sit in cool comfort while I work and (supposedly) make oodles of money.
