Some of you may have noticed the recent appearance of ads on my blog. I was reluctant to do this for a long time, figuring that I was blogging for the fun and to get my voice heard. If I made money, it would be from someone wanting me to write for them or some other deranged thought.
But as time has gone by, the time I spend blogging has made it harder for me to justify doing it for nothing at all. This is a precarious balance, as I don’t want to be compromised in what I say (which is why I have chosen Amazon and Google Ad Sense), and I don’t want people to think money is king to me – it isn’t. But the more my voice (and the voice of other medical bloggers) is heard around the Internet and beyond, the more people there are trying to use our voice to their advantage. Others have made far more off of my blogging than I have (see also #wellsphere). There comes a point where it just makes sense to put up ads.
To those who are offended, please accept my apologies. I only mean to offend with my writing, and not with ads. Just ignore the offense in the ads and focus on my offensive blog posts. Really there is no comparison. To those who are not offended by either (bless your souls) do consider occasionally supporting your local blogger by clicking on an ad or two. Yes, you may not want to buy Viagra or refinance your mortgage, but who knows – you might win some contest and become a famous venture capitalist.
If you do, think of me.
