Dr. Rob
Hi! I am Dr. Rob.
I am a primary care physician from the Southeastern United States. Yes, I am a real doctor. Here are some other facts about me:
- I am a father of four children.
- I am board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
- I am bad at bowling, but would like to be better.
- I have lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Georgia.
- I don’t like mushrooms. They are just too slimy for me.
- I play multiple musical instruments, including Piano, Cello, and Guitar.
- I started college as a voice major.
- I am an early adopter of Electronic Medical Records and have been awarded for our implementation of them in our practice. I have given talks about this subject across the country.
- I don’t have psychic powers – I am not that Doctor Rob.
- I have been diagnosed with ADHD. My staff agrees with this diagnosis.
- Oprah is jealous and has so far boycotted this blog.
- I recently had my gallbladder out. It wasn’t that bad, but the scars kind of look like bugs.
- Llamas and goats have mysteriously become an important part of my blog. I am not sure who invited them, but they keep showing up.
- I accidentally deleted this page, so had to rewrite it. I do stuff like that sometimes. Still, I think I am a pretty good doc. I have never deleted a patient by mistake.
- My feet are size 10.5
- I wear sandals when I see patients. They get mad at me if I don’t wear sandals. I think they like having an eccentric doctor.
- Penguins don’t impress me.
- I am the recipient of far more grace than I deserve.
- I have very little patience for those pesky muskrats.
- I once creamed everyone in a game of SPUD. I usually lost, though, because I can’t run very fast.
- I am working on a book. Inflicting my writing on a limited group of people is not enough for me; I want to terrify millions.
So sit back and enjoy the blog. I hope you grow from the experience. I know I haven’t.
House Call Doctor

I have been asked to join the Quick and Dirty Tips crew and have done a podcast since the summer of 2009 called “The House Call Doctor.” Through this network, Grammar Girl (no, not Glamour Girl) became one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes. I am very excited about this opportunity to reach a whole lot more people.
The goals of the podcast are:
- To explain medical information in a way that is easy to understand.
- To do the above without them falling asleep while driving or other dangerous tasks.
- To give accurate medical information where there is much misinformation being given.
- To maybe be on Oprah like Grammar Girl once was.
Dr. Rob’s Shenanigans
I have appeared in many places for many reasons. Some of my “fame” surprises me. Anyway, if you want to see more of Dr. Rob (after you see a psychiatrist), here are some of the places to look:
- NY Times Health Blog
- Featured post on obesity
- Featured post on rules doctors should follow
- Featured post on rules patients should follow
- LA Times – Listed as a “top ten” blogs. They forgot to add “to avoid.”

- Physicians Practice Pearls – weekly newsletter for which I am regular contributor
- MedPage Today – Musings is featured blog
- ReachMD – on XM Radio (Requires login)
- This American Life – Interviewed by Ira Glass (nice guy) about the lunacy of medical coding.
- I have mysteriously been an “expert” contributor to several articles in Glamour Magazine. Perhaps it was those pictures of me flexing that I sent.
- American College of Physicians Health Blog – regular contributor.
- The Health Care Blog – regular contributor.
- Member of the Better Health medical blogger network.
- New England Journal of Medicine article on social media.
- ACP Hospitalist article on (you guessed it) social media.
